Jamie Hall’s time playing under head soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown translated into a passion for student-athlete development. At West Virginia University, she blends her enthusiasm for sponsorship and donor work with the creation of interactive, student-athlete focused fan activities throughout the year.
“The WVU Athletics mission is to provide the means to empower student-athletes to develop as leaders and achieve their full potential academically, athletically and personally,” Hall, BS, Sport Management (2009) and MS, Sport Management (2010), said.
“In the Mountaineer Athletic Club, we raise funds to provide our student-athletes with the resources they need to be successful. My position raises money for student-athletes through events and special initiatives, such as sport-specific giving clubs, Women Supporting Athletics, Baseball Leadoff Dinner, WVU Classic golf tournaments, the Charleston Scholarship Dinner and WVU Coaches Caravan,” Hall added.
In her new position, Hall, who graduated summa cum laude with minors in business administration and communication studies, works with coaches, donors and fans to build financial resources for student-athletes and programs.
“When I applied to WVU, I planned to study business,” Hall said. “I enjoyed my business and marketing classes in high school and thought that seemed like a good fit.
“At WVU’s new student orientation over the summer, when majors were called out as students were being directed to different rooms at the Mountainlair, I heard ‘sport management.’ On the spot, I changed my major,” she said.
What time Hall wasn't on the soccer field and in the classroom was spent contributing to WVU and her home town of Follansbee, WV.
“During my undergrad years, I interned with Bethany College (WV), worked as the assistant general manager for the West Virginia Illusion and started a 5K race in my hometown,” Hall said. “I also volunteered with the student-athlete development office at WVU.”
Hall received her master’s degree in sport management from WVU, once more summa cum laude. Hall worked as a CPASS advising graduate student and was voted “Most Outstanding Sport Management Graduate Student” by her peers.
Upon earning her master’s degree, James Madison University hired Hall as an athletic ticket office assistant.
“WVU seems to have a great relationship with James Madison University and I was able to start my post-grad career with an internship in JMU’s athletic ticket office,” Hall said. “At JMU, I learned so much about marketing, sales and fundraising.
“Eventually, I moved over to the fundraising side at JMU and then continued my career at Colorado State University, and now, WVU,” Hall said.
She worked her way up to director of donor stewardship and administration at JMU before packing up and moving to Colorado for a fundraising position with Colorado State University's Ram Club.
“My favorite part of my current role is connecting fans with their passion, the Mountaineers,” Hall said.
Hall describes the experience. “Ladies get to have cocktails, shop, go on a stadium tour, see a weight room demonstration, run drills on Mountaineer Field, have dinner and bid on awesome auction items. It’s amazing to see the passion and support of our fans. We have several events throughout the year and our coaches make it so much fun for everyone.”
“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to work for WVU,” Hall said. “It’s an incredible experience to support my alma mater in my home state while giving back to an athletic department and university that gave me so much. It’s a bonus to raise our kids right here in Morgantown as Mountaineer fans.”
