Taylor Schram, an athletic coaching education major who plans to graduate in May, has accepted a Division 1 collegiate soccer coaching position. Schram will serve as first assistant coach for the Binghamton University-The State University of New York Women’s Soccer team.
Schram, who is originally from Washington, Pa., will oversee training sessions, create schedules, recruit and organize travel.
Schram says she fell in love with soccer at an early age. “I started playing soccer when I was three-years-old. I fell in love with the sport instantly and my dad was my first coach ever.”
Schram is thankful for her experience as a graduate assistant while at WVU.
“As a student of the ACE program it has helped prepare me for this position by helping me understand the multiple ‘hats’ that a coach must wear within the college game. I was exposed to administrative responsibilities and on-field responsibilities,” she said.
“There is so much that goes into coaching beyond what happens on the field. I wouldn’t have understood the true meaning of the role of a coach if it weren’t for the ACE program and my time at WVU,” Schram added.
Schram credits her mentors who helped her along the way. “Nikki Izo-Brown, Head Women’s Soccer Coach, and Lisa Stoia, Associate Head Women’s Soccer Coach, spent a great deal of time mentoring me over the course of my time here at WVU and I would not be ready for this position if it weren’t for them,” she concluded.
