The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences offers numerous resources to help students transition smoothly into their first year at West Virginia University. From online courses, to accelerated learning and leadership building programs, CPASS stands out by enhancing the first year experience for students.
The college’s Early Start Program allows incoming freshman students the unique opportunity to get a jumpstart on their coursework by taking an online summer course at in-state tuition rates. Students who take advantage of the Early Start program will also receive early registration for fall courses, an early fall move-in date and additional academic support services. The multiple benefits of the Early Start Program are hard to surpass.
Students who sign up for Mountaineer Quest take advantage of a unique partnership between CPASS and Adventure WV. Mountaineer Quest features a five-day, camp-based summer program that helps incoming students prepare for life at WVU. Day trips may include sightseeing, rock climbing, inflatable kayaking or whitewater rafting, hiking and service-based activities in the local community. At only $95 (free for Pell Grant recipients), find out why 99 percent of participants would recommend Adventure WV to other students.
The Living-Learning Community (LLC) is an on-campus community that helps students embrace the first-year campus experience. Students enrolled in CPASS LLC live on a reserved floor of Bennett Tower, take specialized courses and engage in activities related to their fields of study. The CPASS LLC prepares students for a great future while helping them adjust to college and keep on track to graduate on time. CPASS LLC students have a 14 percent higher retention rate versus nonparticipants.
The Fast Track Pathway provides a three-year plan of study in Athletic Coaching Education, Multidisciplinary Studies, Sport and Exercise Psychology and Sport Management (summer courses required). Students have the option to enroll in one of the college’s one-year, online master’s degree programs following completion of an undergraduate degree.
Highly qualified undergraduate students can take advantage of CPASS accelerated programs, allowing students to work on bachelor’s and master’s degrees simultaneously. An accelerated BS-to-MS degree is available in Sport Management and Physical Education Teacher Education (summer courses are required).
The CPASS Office of Student Success provides an individualized advising experience and is committed to helping students achieve their academic and professional goals. Whether a student has questions about math tutoring, resume reviews, or studying abroad, the friendly folks in the Office of Student Success are ready to help with encouragement and expertise.
