Active Southern West Virginia (Active SWV), in partnership with the West Virginia Physical Activity Plan, is launching a new statewide initiative: Move More with Active SWV: How Do You Measure Your Mountaineer Mile? The six-week virtual challenge begins on Monday, June 9, and encourages West Virginians to discover and expand their daily physical activity, no matter their current fitness level or preferred type of movement.
The campaign invites both individuals and organizations to commit to moving more over six weeks.
Individuals can sign the Individual Move More Promise Form to receive weekly motivation, challenges, and resources. Those who complete the final survey will receive a free prize by mail.
Businesses, schools, and community groups can sign the Organizational Move More Promise Form to access a toolkit with promotional materials, policy templates, and support resources. Organizations that complete the post-challenge survey will receive a free commemorative Blenko Glass ornament, while supplies last.
The initiative is part of the West Virginia Physical Activity Plan, which is coordinated through the Center for ActiveWV—a center housed within the West Virginia University College of Applied Human Sciences.
The ActiveWV Physical Activity Plan (WVPAP) aims to provide a strategic direction for physical activity promotion throughout the state. It is expected that the Plan’s implementation will increase the physical activity levels of all our citizens to meet or exceed the national physical activity recommendations and to therefore improve the health and quality of life of West Virginians. The Plan provides 5 priority areas, and includes strategies and tactics for 10 societal sectors: Business and Industry; Community Recreation, Fitness, and Parks; Education; Faith- Based Settings; Healthcare; Media and Communications; Military; Public Health; Sport; and Transportation, Land Use, and Community Design.
