Dr. R. Scott Kretchmar, one of the top sport philosophers in the country, will visit campus on October 10, 2018 at 7 p.m. to discuss improving youth sport. The Bolton Center for Sports Ethics will host the lecture at the Evansdale Crossing building (EVC-E 414). This event is free and open to the public.
In his upcoming lecture, Kretchmar will discuss the value of youth sports.
“Many people believe that sports are goods for kids, particularly at a time when our country faces obesity problems and when too few children are getting enough exercise. But the truth of the matter is that sports can be good… or bad, depending on how they are organized and conducted,” said Kretchmar.
Kretchmar earned a Ph.D. in physical education from the University of Southern California (1971) . Most recently, he conducted research at Penn State University, State College, PA. and is Professor Emeritus of Exercise and Sport Science.
