Upcoming strength and conditioning clinic features sport science experts

Renowned specialists in the field of strength and conditioning and sport science will participate in the third annual National Strength and Conditioning Association West Virginia State Clinic, featuring speakers typically found on a national platform. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals from a range of specialties.

The event, scheduled for April 3-4, 2020 on the West Virginia University campus, WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute Human Performance Innovation Center, will highlight cutting-edge research and application.

NSCA West Virginia State director Dr. Guy Hornsby, College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences assistant professor, athletic coaching education, will host the two-day event. The clinic will involve a roundtable comprised of Olympians of various sports, Meg Stone, Ed Etzel, Megan Metcalfe and Cara Heads, several scientific presentations, two hands-on workshops involving weightlifting and sprinting, and an experiential discussion on training elite level Olympic athletes versus elite military.

Strength and conditioning professionals around the country will gather to present ideas, concepts and techniques to encourage advancement within the industry.

Notable presenters on day one include Dr. Mike Stone, former head of physiology at the United States Olympic Committee and current director of exercise and sport science at East Tennessee State University. Cara Heads, a 2000 Olympian in weightlifting and head coach of CH Performance and Fitness will close out the day with a hands-on weight room session.

The second and final day of the clinic will feature renowned sport physiologist Dr. Tim Suchomel, Caroll University, and former Head Strength Coach of the USOTC Lake Placid, Dr. Brad Deweese, who will present both a lecture and hands-on workshop focused on sprint development.

The second half of the second day will include three presentations all by persons in charge of overseeing various strength and conditioning and/or sport science programs at the collegiate and professional levels and within the U.S. military with Dr. Josh Nelson, Penn State University, Josh Christovich, Cleveland Browns, and Jonathon Carlock, Fort Campbell, KY.

Additional speakers in the weekend program include Dr. Andrew Layne and Dylan Saurez.
