New CPASS undergraduate initiative will boost access to online education

Undergraduate students within the West Virginia University College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences will soon have expanded opportunities for online learning. Beginning January 19, 2021, Dana Voelker will serve as the college’s director of undergraduate online education to enhance the college’s online programming.

Voelker will team up with WVU campus partners, including WVU Online and WVU Career Services, along with the CPASS Office of Student Success, to increase the college’s online education efforts.

“We are excited to have Dr. Dana Voelker joining our CPASS Online Team. Over the past few years we have experienced significant growth in our online programs at the graduate level,” Sean Bulger, associate dean for graduate and online education, said.

“This position is a tremendous opportunity for the advancement and growth of undergraduate online education in our College. I am looking forward to bringing experience, skills and energy to the development of innovative, high-quality online programs that support the values and mission areas of our College, University and State,” Voelker said.

In her new role, Bulger says that Voelker will lead efforts to further expand online program and course offerings to better meet the emerging needs of the college’s undergraduate learners and prepare them for career success.

“As a direct result of this investment, we are looking forward to a range of future collaborations that are expected to provide current and prospective students with improved access to high quality and affordable online education,” Bulger added.

Voelker, who will remain as CPASS associate professor of sport, exercise and performance psychology, will focus on strategic planning for online majors, minors and certificates, develop strategy to expand online course development and coordinate student success initiatives. Previously, Voelker received the WVU Foundation Award for Outstanding Teaching, which honors exceptional professors who go above and beyond to inspire their students.

Beyond her youth sport research in primary areas of leadership development and mental health, she is engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning through the evaluation of global collaboration and active learning strategies. She is the Principal Investigator of an Active Learning Center Grant from Steelcase Education.
