The West Virginia University literacy education online graduate program has once again earned national acclaim, receiving the International Literacy Association’s National Recognition with Distinction for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals.
This designation signifies that the program is aligned with ILA standards and leads the way in excellence in literacy education.
This prestigious honor places WVU among a select group of institutions nationwide whose programs meet the ILA’s rigorous standards for excellence. Originally recognized five years ago as the first online program to receive the award, WVU’s program is now believed to be the first online program to receive renewal recognition.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty, the commitment of our students, and the support of our College and University,” said Allison Swan Dagen, professor in the WVU School of Education and coordinator of the ILA evaluation process. “Our graduates leave as literacy leaders—ready to teach, lead, and advocate for K–12 students across West Virginia and beyond.”
