West Virginians are invited to celebrate National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, by joining outdoor activities at state parks across the Mountain State.
Events will be held at state parks across West Virginia and include guided hikes, naturalist-led tours, paddling excursions, and conservation projects designed to highlight the state’s public lands and encourage outdoor recreation.
The events are connected to statewide efforts to increase physical activity and wellness by engaging residents in outdoor recreation across West Virginia. They are supported by the West Virginia Physical Activity Plan, housed at the WVU Center for Active WV, which works to make movement a part of everyday life for all West Virginians. By partnering with the West Virginia State Park System, West Virginia Rivers Coalition, West Virginia Trail Association, and West Virginians for Public Lands, the Center is helping to promote inclusive opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get active in the great outdoors.
National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer event for public lands in the United States. It provides opportunities to give back through service while enjoying the outdoors and learning about conservation.
