Employer values qualities of Athletic Coaching Education degree

Joshua Root, WVU Athletic Coaching Education graduate, earned a job at DuPont Performance Coatings as the manufacturing technician. Root attributes much of his success to the knowledge he gained as a CPASS student.

At first glance, Root’s ACE degree may not seem to relate to his new position; however, he uses many aspects of what he learned as a CPASS student.

“My job requires that I work with a team in the process of manufacturing a high quality product where we need to build positive relationships, trust, and have an understanding that we are all working safely together to reach our common goal,” said Root.

He was one of the four who were chosen from among 600 applicants.

“The hiring team was very interested in my degree because of how much this job relates to everything we studied in the ACE program such as team building skills, accountability, and accomplishing goals with a wide diversity of people,” said Root.

Root plans to return to school to earn his Master’s degree in Special Education, to allow him to teach and coach in the future.
