The College of Applied Human Sciences at West Virginia University is proud to announce that two of its graduate programs have been recognized in the 2023-24 edition of the U.S. News and World Report's Best Graduate Schools rankings.
The clinical rehabilitation and mental health counseling program in the School of Counseling and Well-Being has been ranked as the 19th-best rehabilitation counseling graduate program in the country, placing it in the top quartile of programs nationwide. This ranking was determined through peer assessments.
“The recognition of clinical rehabilitation and mental health counseling program is a product of the efforts of the esteemed faculty that serve the program,” said Amy Kennedy, director of the School of Counseling and Well-Being. “The efforts of our program faculty to educate, train and consistently mentor students results in graduates entering the field as proficient practitioners who better the health and well-being of individuals in our communities. We are proud of this recognition and the work of our faculty and alumni.”
Additionally, the School of Education's graduate education program has been ranked ranks in the top third of programs in the country, with an overall rank of 77th. The education rankings are based on the amount of funded research, a peer assessment score, an expert assessment score, the number of doctorates granted, doctoral student-faculty ratio, and doctoral acceptance rates of several graduate degrees within the field. These rankings are determined through in-depth evaluations of four academic disciplines, utilizing a variety of statistical data as well as surveys of academic peers.
“The School of Education's upward momentum in the US News and World Reports rankings is a reflection of our success in preparing, retaining, and graduating students for education careers,” said Nathan Sorber, director of the School of Education. “It also reinforces the quality of our faculty, academic programs, and the expansion of nationally-recognized research and innovations that are addressing critical education issues.”
